General Motors Recalls 3-row Crossovers for Seat Belt Inspection

Yesterday, General Motors sent a press release regarding a voluntary recall of the following 2009 and 2010 3-row Crossovers:
  • Chevy Traverse
  • GMC Acadia
  • Buick Enclave
  • Saturn Outlook
Some of these SUVs will need to be inspected for a potential problem with the second-row seat belts.

GM's recall impacts a little over 207,000 vehicles in the United States.

The recall is surrounding potential damage that could occur to the second-row seatbelt buckle if the seat back is folded down.  In their release, GM says the damage "in rare cases could make an occupant think the belt is properly latched when it isn't."

This is because a plastic shield around the latch release button could get caught in the seat frame, partially depressing the red release button when the seat returned to upright with sufficient force.
Owners of these vehicles will be notified this month by mail directly from GM if their vehicle has been impacted by this recall.  After you've received a card, feel free to use our handy online scheduling tool to schedule your appointment!

As with any recall, it is important for you to wait to receive the notification from General Motors, so we can ensure that the proper parts are in stock and available, and that our staff is completely trained on the topic prior to your appointment.

GM says it found the problem through reports of warranty repairs and that "there are no known cases where second-row safety belts have failed to perform properly in a crash." If you'd like to read the whole press release, please click here.
