2007-2009 Mazda3 and Mazda5 Power Steering Recall

Earlier this week, Mazda announced a voluntary recall of 2007-2009 model years of both the Mazda3 and the Mazda5 for a repair in the power steering system.  This recall affects about 215,000 vehicles.

The good news is that dealership service departments like those at Jim Ellis have been reporting these problems to Mazda and repairing these problems for quite some time.

In fact, long before the recall was issued, Mazda had sent out a Technical Service Bulletin requiring a "service campaign", which means that our Mazda service departments have been making these repairs for quite some time. We have, in fact, already repaired hundreds of Atlanta area Mazdas!

If your service records indicate that your Mazda3 or Mazda5 has already had TSB 06-002/09 work performed, then no further repair is necessary!

If your service records do not reflect this update, then you can expect to receive written communications from Mazda USA about the next steps to be taken.  Because Mazda has to ship parts to support this large recall all over the country, they are notifying customers in waves, to ensure that the dealerships have enough parts in stock to support these repairs. Customers in Georgia can expect to hear from Mazda USA in October 2010.
