The Effects of Hot Weather on Your Car: Have your Battery Tested!

Most of us are only aware of the effects of the soaring summer temperatures on the inside of the cars.  Parking in the shade, using sun shades, and tinting windows are all important parts of keeping your interior in top condition, and reducing the cost of re-cooling the cabin air when you return to your car.  But we often forget that running our cars in hot weather can wreak a lot of havoc under the hood as well.

This week, in honor of the "Dog Days of Summer" service specials and discounts that are going on in every Jim Ellis store, our blog posts will include a few details about the effects of the hot summer weather on your vehicles.

Start it Up!  Have Your Battery Tested

High temperatures can make the battery fluid evaporate, which damages the interior of the battery, and drastically shortens the life of the unit!  Also, the high temperatures can encourage corrosion and deterioration.

Batteries should be tested to ensure that they are charging at the correct rate, that the battery fluid is topped off, and that they are clear of any corrosion.
