The Effects of Hot Weather on Your Car: Maintain that Transmission

This week, in honor of the "Dog Days of Summer" service specials and discounts that are going on in  every Jim Ellis store, our blog posts will include a few details about the effects of the hot summer weather on your vehicles.

On Tuesday, we talked about how the heat impacts your battery life. Yesterday, we talked about the cooling system in your car.  Today's topic is the transmission, and how you can help your car keep running smoothly.

Stay on Track! Regular Maintenance Helps in High Temps

High temperatures are hard on your transmission.  When combined with typical summer activities such as towing boats or campers, hauling lumber for projects or soil and mulch for the garden, those temperatures can really hurt your vehicle!

Check with your service manager about the weight limits and towing capacity of your car or truck before you try to haul something.  And be sure to get your manufacturer's suggested scheduled maintenance regarding transmission fluid and filter changes.
