Volkswagen introduced the 2012 VW Beetle and the the response has been mixed. Some loyalists are concerned that it can't truly be called a beetle anymore because of its new "flatter" shape although they do admit that the rejuvenated excitement is wortt it.  Others say that the new look will open up the marketability of the vehicle to both men and women with the new sleeker look and raised back end.  The host of features was unveiled via their official website blog and showcases all of the things you'd expect to see and a lot that you don't.

Some of the more notable features include the more "squashed look" that replaces the more bulbous look of its ancestors. Then you add on rear spoiler, dual exhaust, sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, keyless access, trim and wrap packages including an annual "theme" and much more too numerous to mention.  The thought was to make the marketability more unisex, give it more power and a lot less flower.  David Shepardson of The Detroit News writes, "The company hopes to regain the luster of the iconic Beetle brand that remains one of the best known auto brands by appealing to more men-as the original version did" by "aiming to shed the 'chick car' label."

The new VW Beetle was shown to the crowd at the New York Car Show and for the most part, it was filled with positive praise since it achieves a much more sporty look, same great fuel economy, the features you'd expect in a newer, more technologically advanced car and the coolness factor that bleeds out of every angle. There's no doubt that the new Beetle will be in high demand once they make it onto the lots of VW dealerships around the globe, if not for the fuel efficiency alone.  The 2012 Beetle 2.0L TDI is the most fuel-efficient Beetle ever. The quiet, four-cylinder 2.0L TDI Clean Diesel engine produces 140 hp and 236 lb. feet of torque. It meets all U.S. emission limits and offers a manufacturer estimate of 40 mpg highway, 29 mpg city and 33 mpg combined.

The only thing left to say is, "Bring it on! We want to drive it!"
